Determining Works to Reduce Supply System Water Loss

Determining Works to Reduce Supply System Water Loss

Client:

NVIRP

Project Description:

Victoria’s farmers need a world class system that efficiently delivers water for modern irrigated agriculture. Much of the irrigation systems within Victoria were built more than 80 years ago. Significant water losses are experienced within the irrigation systems, partly due to ageing infrastructure but also the technology available at the time it was built. Irrigation modernisation is the process to rationalise and improve the efficiency of outdated irrigation systems whilst upgrading and investing in its future. A large driver for this modernisation is to ensure water delivery efficiency is improved and losses throughout the system are minimised as much as possible. This becomes an essential element to strategic management of water resources moving towards a changed paradigm of a drier climatic regime.

Hydro Environmental used G-MW’s approach to the assessment of water savings within the NVIRP project area, as well as base data provided by G-MW, to determine what works would be required to ensure that water savings targets are achieved at an optimal cost.

Key Skills Applied:

Business case costing, water engineering, water savings calculation, irrigation practices, stakeholder engagement and consultation, knowledge management, water regulatory framework, water planning and management, project management, communication, consultation, facilitation, report writing, performance target setting, data management.
