5-Year Review of Shepparton Irrigation Region Sub-surface Drainage Programme

Client:

Goulburn-Murray Water
Goulburn Broken Catchment Management Authority

Project Description:

The Sub-Surface Drainage Program (SSDP) was a key implementation Program of the Shepparton Irrigation Regional Catchment Implementation Strategy (SIRCIS). Its stakeholder engagement process, adaptive management, strategic focus and financial support provided significant benefits to the smooth implementation of the SIRCIS and the delivery of key catchment strategy outcomes.

Hydro Environmental was engaged to conduct a 5-year review of the SSDP which focussed on the achievements between 2000/01 and 2004/05 (i.e. 2000 and 2005), and identified the challenges and targets for the following 6 years. Although not a primary aim of the review, a number of the assumptions and principles of the SSDP were also clarified.

Key Skills Applied:

Current catchment and land management practices, irrigation practices, capacity building, water planning and management, water accounting, water regulatory framework, project management, report writing, risk assessment, water policy, water savings initiatives and strategies.
