Project Description:
The Shepparton Irrigation Region Catchment Implementation Strategy comprises five programs, with each focussing on separate aspects of land and water management in the Shepparton Irrigation Region (SIR). One of these five projects is the Sub-surface Drainage Program.
Hydro Environmental was engaged by G-MW to review its Sub-surface Drainage Program (SSDP) Research and Investigation (R&I) Strategic Plan. This review focussed on the development and implementation planning of the future SSDP research program and required visionary thinking.
The specific objectives of the overall project were to:
- Add innovation to research and investigation
- Confirm the issues related to the SIR SSDP which were to be dealt with over the years 2007-2011
- Classify the issues as strategic, research or operational (including Groundwater Management Plan) issues
- Develop a reporting framework including a process for the development of revised priorities
- Develop projects and sub-project outlines to deal with the highest priority issues
- Establish realistic objectives for priority projects
- Identify what works had been completed, were already in progress or were programd
- Review and set project priorities
- Formulate a SSDP R&I Strategic Plan with 1-year and 4-year objectives and milestones
- Identify resource requirements.
