Project Name:
Review of FlumeGate™ Accuracies

Client:
Goulburn-Murray Rural Water Authority
Project Description:
A pilot project being conducted in the Central Goulburn Irrigation Area of Goulburn-Murray Rural Water Authority (G-MW) is investigating the advantages of Total Channel Control (TCC™) and FlumeGate™ technology. As part of the pilot, a review of the accuracy of the FlumeGate™ technology was undertaken by Hydro Environmental, on behalf of G-MW. This was undertaken to give some surety on the expected measurement accuracies of FlumeGates™ installed as customer meters.
Stage 1 of the project included:
- Field inspections of the FlumeGate™ and TCC™ technology
- Expert review of hydraulic conditions within a FlumeGate™ installation
- Expert review of the hydraulic assumptions utilised in design
- Determination of hydraulic testing requirements
- Analysis of test results including quantification of error ranges
- Preparation of customer focused and G-MW Board level focused reporting tools.
Since the completion of Stage 1, Hydro Environmental has had on-going input into the design and management of further field and laboratory hydraulic testing, including the design and management of an in-situ field test at a customer outlet.
The outputs of the project will be crucial for the continuing adoption of TCC™ and FlumeGate™ technology, and the ability to utilise this technology in water savings projects.
Key Skills Applied:
Irrigation practices, water accounting, technical understanding of irrigation system hydraulics, development of project specifications, report writing and communication skills.
